Cheesecake Factory History
The Cheesecake Factory operates about 200 full-service dining restaurants today. And 165 fall under The Cheesecake Factory brand, 11 under the Grand Lux Cafe brand, and one under the RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen brand. The Cheesecake Factory also operates two bakery production facilities in Calabasas, California and Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
They also license two bakery-based menus for other food service operators under The Cheesecake Factory Bakery Cafe marque. Its cheesecakes and other baked goods can also be found in the cafes of many Barnes & Noble stores.
The restaurant established the pattern of featuring an eclectic menu, large portions, and signature cheesecakes. In 1978, David Overton opened a small salad-and-sandwich restaurant in Beverly Hills. And there he sold 10 varieties of his mother Evelyn’s cheesecakes on a one-page menu.
Then, in the 1990s the Cheesecake Factory expanded outside of Southern California. And they became incorporated in 1992, going public in September of 1993. David Overton initiated a plan of opening three to four units a year in hopes of generating 25% annual increase in sales.
As of December 2015, the Cheesecake Factory has spread worldwide, including eight locations in the Middle East. Included are three in Dubai, another in Arabella and another one in Saudi Arabia in Jeddah. There is also one in Abu Dhabi, and last at the Verdun Shopping center in Beirut, Lebanon.
Now an international name, the Cheesecake Factory offers unique recipes for every taste of every customer worldwide.
