Hooters (Menu Prices, Secret Menu, Nutrition Info)

Hooters is one of the most famous restaurant (or “breastaurant”) chains in the United States. Of course, most of that notoriety doesn’t stem from its food, but this is still a great place to grab a bit to eat and to take the whole family for a meal. Hooters is unique, diverse, and it’s open from morning until night. The Hooters motto is “Delightfully Tacky, Yet Unrefined”. It is the Las Vegas of the restaurant world. And just like Las Vegas, you will either love it or hate it.

Year Founded: 1983
Headquartered: Atlanta, Georgia
Type: American, Seafood, Breastaurant
Locations: 430+

Hooters has never been one to shy away from controversy. In fact, it has relied upon it, accepting the free publicity that comes with every rant, every outburst and ever newspaper story. This chain makes no attempt to hide its appeal. It is considered a family restaurant and many of its customers will draw your attention to this. But make no mistake about it, Hooters is all about big food, big service and big…well, you know the rest.

It actually plays on this association with its name and logo. The word “Hooters” is a slang term for both owls and breasts, and you can see this association in their logo, where the owl’s eyes take the place of the “Os” and also represent breasts.

Hooters History

Hooters didn’t have the most promising of starts. On April Fool’s Day in 1983, six businessmen with no restaurant experience got together and decided to create the brand. Their goal was to open a place they couldn’t get kicked out of and to create a dining experience that they would love and that they knew their friends would love.

The first restaurant opened a few months later in Clearwater, Florida. They decked out the restaurant in wood, added some humor to the menu and the surroundings, and hired a few attractive Hooters girls to serve as waitresses.

The first Hooters girl was actually hired on a bet. One of the Hooters six made a bet with the others that he could convince the winner of a bikini contest to become a Hooters girl. That winner was Lynne Austin, who did in fact become the very first to wear the Hooters uniform.

That first restaurant is no longer standing, but it lasted for a good 16 years and and it helped to carry the Hooters brand into the stratosphere.

Hooters Girls

All servers in Hooters are female, and all of them are required to wear the Hooters uniform. This consists of a white tank top that features the Hooters logo, and orange running shorts. Hooters girls are also required to wear white socks, white shoes and tan pantyhose.

A Hooters girl is typically a “girl next door”. Hooters tend to prefer girls that are young, fun, slim and well endowed. These girls are expected to entertain as well as to serve, and the job involves singing a little, dancing a little and smiling a lot. Hooters tend not to focus on girls with serving experience and typically put looks and personality above any prior job experience or qualifications. This has caused some expected controversy in the past. But in defense of Hooters, it also gives a chance of employment to girls who may be otherwise unemployable.

Some rules that Hooters girls are expected to follow include interacting any guest within 5 feet; keeping their hair down at all times; and wearing makeup. Unless they are taking hair growth vitamins then we can assume no hair will get in our food. There have also been suggestions that tattoos are forbidden. This is not technically true, although Hooters prefer it if tattoos do not show.

Hooters Menu

If you love fried chicken, then you’re in the right place. Chicken is the dish of the day at Hooters, and there is no shortage of breasts and legs to enjoy. Hooters wings are famous, and they are a must-try if you find yourself in a Hooters restaurant. These wings can be ordered in pieces of 6, 10, 15, 20 and 50, perfect whether you’re on your own or with a group.

They can be wrapped in bacon, breaded, or done in a number of other ways, and there are spicy and mild versions to try. For many, a trip to Hooters involves a basket of wings, a big serving of fries and a beer or two. But there is more to the menu than that.

Hooters offer a number of sides, including Chopped Cobb Salad and Coleslaw.

Hooters Secret Menu

The only thing better than a secret menu item is a secret menu item served to you by a Hooters girl. These smiling, happy-go-lucky servers will happily accommodate your needs (as far as food goes, anyway) which makes the Hooters secret menu one of the best around. It might not be as extensive as the likes of McDonalds and Chipotle, but it’s different. And if you like your fried chicken and other comfort food, it’s ideal.

In fact, in many ways the Hooters secret menu isn’t too dissimilar from the ones you will find at fried chicken chains like KFC, albeit with the benefits of table service (the servers are always happy to do what they can if it pleases the customers and increases the tip) and a somewhat more substantial menu.

Hooters Nutrition and Calories

Hooters is all about having a good time. The Hooters girls are there to keep you entertained and happy. There is usually some good music playing or a football match to watch, and the atmosphere is lively. This is a place to drink, eat and be merry, and the health conscious may be left wanting somewhat.

Still, this is a modern restaurant, and like any modern restaurant, they do what they can to appeal to all tastes and all needs. There are special diets catered for and there are also healthy (or healthier) options available.

For instance, it will take one hell of a jog to burn off the 2510 calories that their serving of 20 Hooters Wings contains. And if you opt for the Hooters Bacon Wrapped Wings, then you might want to extend that run by a few miles. But the Hooters Boneless Wings contain just 920 calories for the same serving, and there are also salads, sandwiches and more that might be a little kinder to your waistline.

Hooters Menu Prices

Hooters menu prices are fairly reasonable, ensuring they attract a wide range of clientele. This really is a family menu, but it’s also one that singles, couples and everyone else can enjoy. Admittedly, not everyone goes to Hooters because of the food, but it’s good, it’s affordable and there is plenty to choose from.

Hooters Location

There are around 430 Hooters restaurants around the world, many of which are franchises. They might not be the biggest chain in the world, but they are one of the most diverse. As an example, Del Taco have around 100 more locations than Hooters. But many of these can be found in the state of California, and others are dotted around the US. Chipotle, which is one of the largest chains in the country, have over 2,000 locations, but just a couple dozen of these can be found outside of America.

Hooters, on the other hand, can be found everywhere from Aruba to Thailand and from Nottingham, UK, to Tokyo, Japan. In fact, none of the three biggest Hooters restaurants are located in this country (these can be found in Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Singapore). There are 28 countries worldwide that have Hooters restaurants, as well as 44 US states.

Hooters hasn’t always enjoyed a great deal of success outside of the United States though. The United Kingdom was one of the most obvious markets for them to target, as many US chains have performed well here. But it didn’t quite catch on and many restaurants were forced to shut. At of 2016, there is just one Hooters in the UK.

Of the 430+ restaurants that carry the Hooters name, 160 are owned by Hooters of America.

Hooters Store Hours

Hooters typically opens at 11:00am each day, including Sunday. It closes at 12:00am from Monday to Thursday, at 1:00am on Friday and Saturday, and at 11:00pm on Sunday. These times apply to the majority of Hooters restaurants, but the times may differ depending on your location and will almost certain differ if the Hooters in question is based outside of the United States.
