Does IHOP Drug Test?

IHOP is a franchise, which means that not all locations will have the same interview process and will go through the same protocols. However, we have done our research, we have asked around and from what we can gather IHOP do not drug test in most cases. There are exceptions to this and you may be asked to pass a drug test if you are promoted to a higher paying and higher responsibility role. But as a server, a cook or a cashier, you are unlikely to be asked to submit a drug test.

IHOP is one of the many American restaurant chains that pays its servers a lot less than minimum wage, knowing that they stand to make much more than that in tips. Of course, you probably won’t get as many tips as you would at higher end chains like Red Lobster and at places like Hooters, but you should still be able to bump up the basic wage to minimum wage and beyond.

That basic wage can range from $3 to $5.50. If you are a hostess and therefore don’t have access to a steady supply of tips, then you can expect to earn around $8 an hour, while a line cook at IHOP can earn in excess of $10 an hour. Many fast food chains will only pay $8 to $9 an hour for this role and because many of them are not specialized, it is a job that will fall under the role of “Crew Member”.

They don’t take everyone that applies, few franchises do, but if you have the money and they believe that you can do well for their brand, then they might be willing to allow you to come onboard.

You stand a greater chance if you have more than the minimum required liquid assets. You also stand a very good chance if you have experience as a restaurant owner or manager. The location is also important. You need to find a suitable place where there is currently no IHOP and where you can prove that an IHOP would be a success.

IHOP Franchise Cost

The IHOP franchise fee is $40,000 per restaurant unit if you purchase an agreement for a number of them, and $50,000 if you purchase a single agreement. Don’t get your hopes up just yet though as you need a lot more than that to start you own IHOP franchise.

You need to invest in property, employees, stock and a number of other basics. The lowest total for all of this is just under $100,000. That’s quite a lot more than the franchise fee, but it’s still a reasonable amount if you can make it happen for that. However, this climbs to a maximum franchise investment of over $800,000.
