Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC Menu Prices: Updated for 2017

KFC Menu

Founded By Harland Sanders over 85 years ago in North Corbin, Kentucky, Kentucky Fried Chicken wasn’t always a picture perfect restaurant. In fact, Harland Sanders began selling chicken out of his roadside restaurant while the Great Depression was occurring. The concept of franchises became a hit when he was able to open up his first in Utah in 1952 and so began chicken as a major Finger Lickin’ Good fast food component.

While many establishments used hamburger and tried diversifying in the way they prepared it, Harland Sanders knew he had to do something different; and so the world of fried chicken was born. Branding his image as “Colonel Sanders”, he inserted himself into American pop culture, as well as food culture. His own image remains a prominent figure in his advertisements.

While Kentucky Fried Chicken was the first in franchising, they were also the first to expand out of the US border and into Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and even Jamaica by 1965. Through vast corporate changes, KFC prevailed and began opening in areas like China.

Kentucky Fried Chicken’s first ever preparation was the pressure friend chicken pieces which went well with Colonel Sanders’ special recipe of 11 spices and herbs mixed together, then sprinkled on top. While there are only so many dishes that can be made from one item, KFC has creatively and somewhat healthily expanded into other chicken related items like chicken sandwiches, chicken wraps, French fries, desserts, breakfasts, salads, and more. Don’t be fooled, though, as there are a plethora of secret items that can be ordered from KFC.

The Colonel’s 11 herbs and spices have become famous and is one of the best secrets in the food industry. While it’s not copyrighted or patented, the original recipe is sealed and signed for safekeeping in a vault of sorts. This will remain his own intellectual property, despite the lack of patent. To make sure it is kept secret, two companies come together to fill in half of the recipe. The first half of the recipe is put together by Griffith Laboratories and then it’s sent to McCormick, who adds the second half of the recipe to the batch. Because of one of the best-kept food industry secrets, there are over 19,000 locations worldwide, bringing more than $23 billion dollars annually.

KFC Buffet Locations

KFC Buffet

Believe it or not, there are KFC locations that have all-you-can-eat buffets. These are a rare find, but they do exist and they have caused quite a stir in the online community. They began to make the rounds a few years ago, when they were reported on by the Huff Post and other likewise online media.

Obviously there are restrictions. You need to be in the restaurant for one, and you can’t take a bucket to the drive-by and load-up on a much as it will hold (we are deeply sorry for destroying your briefly held dreams). You also need to pay based on your age and whether or not you want a drink, although the drink option only costs an extra dollar or two from what we have heard.

If the reports are true then these KFC buffet locations allow you to feast for around $10. But we’re still little dubious. They are hard to pin down, the buffets don’t last even in the KFC locations that do have them, and the entirety of the KFC menu doesn’t seem to be included on them.

If you know of any KFC buffet locations then please get in touch and give us all the details. In the meantime though, we’re going to sit on the fence with this one. We’ll treat it like we treat unicorns, fairies and ghosts: just because someone on the internet says they exists, doesn’t mean they do, and until we see them with our own eyes, then we’re not changing our opinion.

KFC Founder

KFC Prices

Colonel Sanders has become a caricature of himself. In a world of fake mascots, of Ronald McDonalds and Aunt Jemimas, it’s easy to see why so many believe that every mascot is fake, that it’s all part of a advertising campaign. These beliefs are common with regards to Colonel Sanders, but this KFC founder is 100% real, even if he does look like he’s fresh from an designer’s draft book.

Sanders was born in 1890 and he lived for 100 years, passing away in 1980. His full name was Harland David Sanders and contrary to what his title would have you believe, he was not a Colonel. He did enlist in the army, but he falsified his date of birth on his official papers and was discharged just a few months later.

As he tried to find his calling, he worked as everything from an insurance salesman to a filling station operator. He discovered a more fulfilling and stable career when he began selling find chicken during the Great Depression, filling-up stomachs with cheap and tasty food at a time when few Americans could afford the luxury of eating out.

For Sanders, it was a case of “right time, right place” and it is thanks to his work during this pivotal time of America’s history that we currently have the global phenomenon that are fried chicken chains. In fact, his work has helped to shape the fast food industry in many other ways, inspiring many others to follow in his footsteps and making his name and his image legendary at the same time.

KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken

We often use both “KFC” and “Kentucky Fried Chicken” to refer to this chain. That’s because most customers still assume that the full name of the chain is Kentucky Fried Chicken and that KFC is used as an abbreviation. This is certainly the way it was for many years, but these days KFC is simply “KFC”.

They changed their name to the abbreviation several years ago. This move was all about changing their image, trying to get across that they aren’t all about greasy, unhealthy food and that there are different options. Of course, current generations will still know it by its full name and will still make those connections, but generations of the future won’t and they will have effectively abolished “fried” from their name.

KFC Yum Center Events

The Yum Center is a huge arena located in the heart of Kentucky, an entertainment home to many big acts and a place where the locals can cut loose. The main tenants of this huge complex are the Louisville Cardinals from the University of Louisville—both the male and female teams. It has also served as a home to other sports teams.

It is also a hotspot for major music concerts, with organizers of these events taking advantage of the fact that there are more than 22,000 seats and nearly 1,000 car parking spaces.

The KFC Yum Center, which is named after both Kentucky Fried Chicken and their parent company Yum Brands, is the second largest college arena in all of Kentucky, a proud venue for everyone and for the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain.

Best Fried Chicken in Kentucky

If you ask the locals then few will tell you that KFC has the best fried chicken in the state of Kentucky. Providing food snobbery doesn’t sway their opinion, then it would like be in everyone’s top five, but you’ll have to seek out the independent chains if you really want the best.

One of the best places to get fried chicken in Kentucky is in Lexington. Both Ramsey’s and Merrick Inn are famous for their fried chicken and will top many people’s list. Parkette, also in Lexington, is also worth a visit, especially if you want a generous slice of nostalgia with your southern fried chicken.

KFC Survey

KFC Survey

There are customer experience surveys in most countries where you can find KFC. These allow you to voice your complaints and your concerns to the owners and operators. They also allow you to tell them how happy you were with the food and or the service. The survey you take is linked to your order, the store you ordered it from and a number of other pieces of info, so it gives them some genuinely helpful data that they can use to better the service offered in each location.

There are also some prizes on offer every now and then, as well as other incentives. The details of these surveys can be found on your KFC recipe. It will tell you where to go, and it also contains the information that you need to input into the website, including store number and order number.
