Steak ‘n Shake make their infamous Steakburgers from a mixture of high quality meats. They take prime cuts of steak, mix with quality beef and form into burgers. In the early days, the founder would cut and mince the steaks in front of his customers, proving that they were actually getting the prime cuts of meat that he promised them.
You can make similar burgers yourself just by mincing quality meats. It’s best not to use a full flank of steak. There is a reason Steak ‘n Shake use a combination, and that’s because steak can be too tough and is not ideal in a burger (although price also plays a role).
But truth be told, if you use 100% beef and make sure it’s of a high quality, you won’t taste much of a difference in the meat itself. What makes Steakburgers so special is the Steak ‘n Shake seasoning. This is a unique combination of spices that have helped this brand to gain iconic status in the burger world. Not unlike the famous KFC or Popeyes seasoning.
This recipe is as closely guarded as those famous chicken recipes. But we have a recipe that comes pretty close. You can make it in the time it takes you to fry-up a fresh burger.
Steak ‘n Shake Steakburger Recipe
To make the famous Steak ‘n Shake seasoning, you need a few simple ingredients, many of which will probably be in your kitchen already. These include:
- 4 tbs salt
- 1 tbs ground black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 paprika/smoked paprika
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp olive oil
To make the seasoning, just combine the first eight ingredients in a bowl until everything is thoroughly mixed. Add the olive oil (you can use other oil) before adding to the burger and then season as desired. If you make a big batch, you can leave it in the cupboard, simply adding a little oil before using it.
