Church’s Chicken Nutrition Basics

As you can see from the Church’s Chicken nutrition table above and the calories info below, this food is high in fat and high in calories. But that’s not the only issue. There are also a lot of other ingredients and nutrient levels to watch out for.

Fried chicken tends to contain a lot of salt, for instance. In the Original Wing, which contains just 300 calories, there is more than 500mg of sodium. This means that four servings will give you your Recommended Daily Allowance of sodium.

If you’re there for the Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy then two servings will put you significantly over your RDA. There is also MSG in many items on the Church’s Chicken menu, including most of their main meals and all of their fried chicken. This is not as bad as many scare stories will lead you to believe, but it’s not exactly healthy either.

Church’s Chicken Calories

Church's Chicken Calories

So, how do Church’s Chicken calories compare to the calories at other chains? Well, they are roughly on par with other fried chicken chains, from Chick-Fil-A to Raising Canes. This is high-energy, high fat stuff and you might by surprised as to just what extent.

To give you an idea, here are some comparisons. From this Church’s Chicken menu we will take four servings of Spicy Wing, which come in at around 1,600 calories. Add a Large Coke (540 calories) and a large French Fries (570 calories) and you have around 2,700 calories. This means that, for the same amount of calories, you could get all of the following from other popular menus:

Church’s Chicken Vegetarian

Church's Chicken Full Menu

If you are a vegetarian then you can pretty much rule out the main meals on the Church’s Chicken menu. As you can see from our Church’s Chicken Nutrition table above, most of these revolve around chicken, whether in the form of breasts, legs and wings, or as offal. There are some sides that you can enjoy though.

The Church’s Chicken menu includes Mac n Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, French Fries and much more. In fact, most of the sides on this menu are okay for vegetarians. The same goes for many of their sauces. These were created for their chicken and that’s where they work the best, but they are also be used as sauces and dips for the sides.

To make sure, you should always check with your server and with the restaurant menu to ensure that the option you choose definitely is vegetarian.

Church’s Chicken Vegan

Church's Chicken Nutrition Info

It probably won’t come as much of a surprise to learn that there aren’t many vegan options on the Church’s Chicken menu. This is a fried chicken chain after all, and they aren’t exactly hotspots for vegan diners. The same goes for the KFC menu, the Popeyes menu and most other fried chicken chains. The main menus are heavy on meat, and the sides are heavy on butter and other dairy produce.

If you are vegan and you find yourself in this chain then you can opt for one of the following sides and sauces, all of which are vegan:

  • Corn
  • Jalapeños
  • Collard Greens
  • Green Beans
  • French Fries
  • BBQ Sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Hot Sauce

Of course, that’s assuming that you’re happy with a butter-less corn cob and a few sachets of sauce.

Church’s Chicken Gluten-Free

Church’s Chicken are very clear about which options are gluten-free. There are a number of these and you can find information on them on the Church’s Chicken Menu. All of their fried chicken contains gluten, including the Chicken Sandwiches, the Chicken and Gravy and all other forms of the fried chicken.

On the main menu, the only options that are gluten-free are the Livers and Gizzards. There are also many sides that are gluten-fee, including potato dishes, corn dishes, okra dishes and more.

However, like most fast food chains and casual dining chains, there is no guarantee that the products do not contain traces of allergens even if stated otherwise. This is evidenced by the following warning, found on the nutrition page:
